Ocee Park Athletic Association (OPAA) Summer All Stars
Selection Process

The following selection process will be followed to select all Summer All-Star teams representing OPAA. Any suggested modifications should be presented in writing to the All-Star Coordinator of the OPAA Board of Directors for consideration.
OPAA will form teams in age groups 6U-12U assuming we have willing and capable coaches and sufficient player participation in each age group. Multiple teams may be formed in a particular age group as well. Every player selected to a summer all-star team must be a registered participant in the current OPAA spring recreational baseball program.
Team Names:
- A Team - Ocee Black
- B Team - Ocee Orange
- C Team - Ocee White
All-Star Teams:
The All-Star team(s) in each age group will be selected in mid-March (Coach- pitch teams) and mid-April (Kid pitch teams) of each spring season for the immediate summer season. Once an all-star team is selected, the team will begin practicing on Sundays during the spring. All-star practice will not in any way interfere with participation in the regular season and/or end of regular season recreation tournament.
- Game / Tournament Play ends TBD by age group - Individual Team (Parents / Manager) determine number of games and cost for each team
- Cost of All-Star team to be borne by each team’s parents – OPAA provides 2 Dozen game balls to each team.
- OPAA will provide some guidance and high level governance of team financials, however, finances for each team will be handled by a member of the team and not OPAA.
- Parental Agreement
- Parents of all teams will be notified of the Summer All-Star team and potential commitment by March/April
- All Parents of players selected through the process will be asked to agree to time and financial commitment for All-Star team if their child makes the team.
- Parents of players selected for team will meet with their Head Coach to discuss possible schedule for games / tournaments and the cost and time committed and agreed to for each team.
- Player Involvement
- Competitive baseball, attend practices, display sportsmanship, and support of team mates.
- All Players will play in games, but minimum playing time per game will be determined at each age group.
- All teams are required to play in the OPAA Summer Slam if their age group is a division in the tournament.
Coach Selection:
The head coach (and assistant coach where possible) for each all-star team will be selected prior to the scheduled Sunday sessions.
- Any person associated as a member of OPAA may submit a request to manage a summer All-Star team.
- OPAA BOD will select a manager and an assistant manager for each age group’s team based on coaching ability, experience, sportsmanship, leadership and teaching skills.
- All coaches must be approved by the OPAA Board of Directors.
- All coaches must have volunteer forms approved through CJC.
Player(s) Selection:
- Players will be invited to participate in 1 tryout session that usually last 2 hours in March prior to team selection.
- If additional sessions are needed for multiple teams in a specific age group, that will be communicated.
- Players will be invited to sessions based on spring assessment scores and coach recommendations.
- Players will be selected for each age group All-Star team based on the following criteria:
- Spring Assessment scores
- Early regular season play
- Regular season coach assessments and recommendations
- Sunday session performance
- Player in good standing (attitude, participation)
- Players will be selected by the named Head and Assistant Coach(es) in collaboration with the regular season coaches from the specific age group – facilitated by the All-Star Coordinator.
- Rosters will be selected based on the age requirements below. No exceptions will be allowed.
